The Scope of Language
Installation at Socrates Sculpture Park, Queens NY
Video Documented, 1:31 Minutes
The waterways of New York City shores historically affected the multilingual and culturally diverse fabric of the community. These observation scopes provide views of the East River and the Manhattan skyline in which the water is overlaid with letters from the many alphabets that are used in the over 167 languages of New York City. Addressing issues of immigration, assimilation and diversity, this piece illustrates the pooling of the many languages that evolved into communication within our city.
